Title: Forum structure - share your opinions
Post by: Asphodel on April 17, 2011, 19:48:02
Dear members of the forum!

Soon our forum is going to be updated, as you might already know. And also some changes in the forum structure might take place. Matze asked me to create this topic where all of you can share your opinion on the following:

1) What do you think about merging of sub-forums? For example, merge inside, outside, sideview into one... Or do you consider all of these sub-parts necessary as they are?

2) What if there will be no separate German-part in the new forum? Because the main part of the activity is in English-spoken part anyway. And in German part it's a bit more silent.

3) Any other suggestions? ;)

Please, write whether you support these suggestions or not, and do you have any other ideas to offer?

Hello dear Admins !
Well, as for merging subforums, I am totally in favour of it for the subforums  that are very rarely used in particular, like Fanpages and Fanforums maybe could be merged in Inside ! But it will be difficult to choose what to put where... I might come up with more suggestions later, as for now I need some time to think at least..

As for merging the German and English part I think it is a very good idea ! I hope it will help to keep German-speakers more in touch with English-speakers ! It is sad that for now we rarely come across each others...

No other suggestion for now, except maybe the chat we mentioned some time ago, but well, the idea was never put into action so maybe there are good reasons against it...

1. I think that the merging of sub-parts wouldn't be too much of a problem as most of the parts are just mixed anyway.

2. I personally would find it a pity when the german part would die this irreversable dead ... in the end Lacrimosa is a German-speaking band and has brought many people to learning this language, taking it out of the forum in this way I think it would be a pity ... on the other side it would take away the division there is now... but would it be like in the earlier forum where there's just mixed speech? And German as well as English being part of this forum or would German just don't be allowed anymore? If the latter than I'm certainly against... cause with that you'd scare away the remaining few  German-writing people who recently showed that they'd want to make the German part relive a bit...

3. as for other suggestions ... I've been thinking this over as the discussion was brought up in the German part of the forum ... and I think that indeed the part that's missing in the German part is the "small-talk" subjects which we have masses off in the mixed part (cause I believe that's where most activity is situated right? the off-topic section of the mixed forum; seems English cause most active users here use English indeed) ...

- My suggestion is to create a lacrimosa-related part (for the disc-discussions, artwork-discussions,tours, fan-art, etc) and a non-lacrimosa related part call it offtopic (for the small-talks, the games, etc.) either for both languages separated or for both languages mixed (but I remember from the beginning of this forum that it was quite a mess when people started writing languages through each other)

- another suggestion is to make a separate part for introductions of new people so they easily find their way to introduce themselves when they first arrive here.

- limit for the avatar size in any case I think as well as for the signature-size if that were possible.

edit:
I'm also in for the Chat-idea that's been introduced before.

1)I fully support both of these solutions, even I used to separate all parts of the forum (outside, inside and so on..),but it would be not bad if everything was in one piece, maybe because I don't understand the differences between them and for what they'd done.

2)So,I fully support the idea - to get away German language and to make only English, because all LacriWelt speaks in English for the greatest understanding, and it's not very nice for me sometimes to read any topic with some posts with huge texts in German.
Although I love and respect German language, but here it should not to be,I think.Maybe only for some administers.

3)Back the PMs please!!

This is my own opinion.

My views:

1) I agree about merging German and English part - as Melissa already said it will keep us more close.

2) About merging Outside, Inside, etc. - I'm not sure it will be good. It keeps forum more structured for my opinion and helps to find some topics more easily.

3) PLEASE, SWITCH the Announcements section into read-only mode for ordinary users! I think only admins should create new topics there.

4) Merging Lacrimosa-Fanclubs and Lacrimosa-Fanpages is also a good idea in my opinion.

5) Maybe it could be possible to create a separated section for Lacriwelt? For all topics which connected with it - anniversaries, projects, ministers meetings, Lacrinights, etc.

6) Not directly about forum's structure, but - could you make some restricts for avatar's size? Maybe not to small like on other forums (100x100) but in some reasonable borders....

And thank you, dear Admins, for this opportunity to share our thoughts about forum's structure!!

As for German part... that's not my business coz I don't write in german, but we all could notice that german part is used rarely. The main language of communication is english (and, save us God from admin's team anger  - russsian ;) )

yes, but russian is not allowed here, if i remember the rules   ;)   and making it allowed wouldn't be fair towards the rest of the people here because then we would need spanish as well and then nobody would ever understand anyone ...

*shuts up*  just my opinion, don't want to argue, before someone misunderstands me   ;)

Thank Matze and you, Julia, for this topic.

1. I like this sub-parts, but some of them are no necessary. For example, Who am I and Meet & Greet

2. Well, I even don`t know...I think, we should ask our German speaking friends. For me personally - we can.

3. I like Felisa`s view about Lacriwelt-section. May be, we can create a section where we spent Lacrinights, hold contests, meetings, there will be our Constitution? Of course, all this forum is Lacriwelt, but a separate section will be just more comfort  to use.

I ´m very dissapointed about the people who wrotes that the German part to get away here in this Forum. It`s a pitty. You forgot that Lacrimosa is a German speaking Band and there texts are also written in German. Thank you very much.  :(

yeah indeed. Lacrimosa is a german speaking band on first place, and saying things like "we don't need the german part" sounds as if you minded Tilo's lyrics which are also in german.

to everyone who thinks we don't need a german part:
i don't speak german and i don't understand much, but i really think we should keep the german part. not everyone understands english here, and that might be the main reason we don't see them writing often, you know?

It´s not a reason for me to keep the German part away. There are some people they speak German very often and English not often. I can´t immagine that.

Klodi supported you on that ;) she also thinks that German part should remain because some people are not capable to understand/write English enough to write in it (as I also agreed with you in the German topic on this matter :))

As for me...

I think the German part is necessary in order to mark an identity right here. But if I think more and more, as I can't understand it and I know I'm not the unique, I think sadly it's stopping the communication between fans. I think it's a big decision actually...

I'm not against the unification between forums! But I'm a little bit worried about how could decrease the activity and opinions about Lacrimosa. So:

Quote from: "Kitty"
- My suggestion is to create a lacrimosa-related part (for the disc-discussions, artwork-discussions,tours, fan-art, etc) and a non-lacrimosa related part call it offtopic (for the small-talks, the games, etc.) either for both languages separated or for both languages mixed (but I remember from the beginning of this forum that it was quite a mess when people started writing languages through each other)

I totally agree this!

Dear, personally me didn't mean to cut out German part (and to forbid German language here - it's ravings), I only said that we could merging German and English sections, for not dividing those who speaks German or English only. So as I see it - there will keep all german's topics and talks, but they will be at the same sections with english's ones. Sorry, if my words offended you :((

My notions:

1. Expand PM system
2. Privatize Lacrimosa sections (both English and German) because I've noticed that our avatars pop up in google searches if we look for Lacrimosa photos. Personally, I don't like finding my posts/photos in google's cache. :/ You never know who in your life could be stalking your internet accounts or perhaps professionals trying to see your suitability for a position. It really does happen.
3. If we privatize these sections, perhaps more people will actually join and there will be less lurkers and blank accounts.
4. Announcement section should be kept public so we have less people joining and only asking "will the band be in my country ever or soon??"
5. I think everything that's in misc. should be kept the way it is. Solely creating a "Lacriwelt" section might make newbies/non-daily users feel left out.

well as for the mixed languages... I already wrote it before... it might really create confusion and chaos as misunderstandings as well if people start mixing up languages in one topic... therefore I think either way German and English people won't be able to communicate when neither of them try to adapt the language... so I suppose it's better to get structure in that still than to have a mixed forum again. Moreover I think (and fear) that German might just disappear when you mix it again...German-topics would disappear in an English sea I think.

just a remark to the idea to erase the border between the english and german parts ... well, thing is, even now there are not many german topics, comparing to how many we have in english; and if the border was erased, german ones would get lost and sooner or later, all the german topics, posts [and probably german-speaking members] would disappear   ;)

@ Felissa: Don´t worry for your words they were really. I `m sorry for my hard words. That was only my personallity feelings. I said what I think. Sorry.
@ Lux: I understand now what you mean. You will put the German and English part together? Is it right? Sorry for my English. I think that the German and English part will be himself here in the Forum, because I would like to wrote with the German people sometimes in my own language. I hope I understand it now?  :)

1. Thank you, dear Admins-team, for the given possibility to tell our opinion. It is really appreciate

2. I think that the main structure of the forum which exists now (a German and English part and also the Lacrimosa's part and Offtopic) is convenient enough and it should be kept. May be only a some correction in these sections.

3. I totally agree with Felisa that the section of Announcements should be closed for ordinary users. Definitely it is not a place for spam or casual topics.

4. I think also that all threads of Lacrinight should be included in parts of Lacrimosa. It will help to keep their in order and it is easy to find. If Lacrinight is already a tradition (as I hope), not just a game, it must be formally associated with Lacrimosa band.

5. And of course I strongly vote for limit of size on avatars and banners in signature. =))

Thanks for your comments so far. Just a few comments:

1) we will NOT ban the German language, that was never an option. It's just the question if we can merge forums here. We have way too many subforums and meanwhile it's quite confusing and doubled.

2) to display birthdays on the frontpage is no problem

3) Avatars will be limited to a width of 150px max and signatures will be limited to ONE picture. I guess everybody knows why ;)

4) the new forum software will be SMF (Simple Machines)

5) it's probably not possible to transfer the nickpages, but all other data will be transfered

6) PM will come back of course, also your old messages

7) if ALL dislike that Google finds your entries and pictures, I can turn that off

8) I thought we'll call the new Forum LacriWelt since you created it...

Some suggestion and questions:

- should there be a forum section an registered can only after he posted a certain amount of entries? So let's say: after 10 postings he gets access to a special subforum. If yes - after how many postings, how should we call that section and what should be in there?

- how shall we call the member level in the future and after how many postings they should be reached? I think we can cut down the levels a bit. It's currently like this:

Thank you Matze for your feedback!

I think it would be a good idea to limit access according to posts. After 10 posts is rational and I think once they achieved that, they can see off-topic areas. Below 10~ post users should only be able to view Lacrimosa-related sections.

for example:

                  # of Posts:
New User   (1-100)
Angst        (100-200)
Einsamkeit  (...-...)
satura     (...-...)

and so on..
PS: I couldn't remember the other albums

-About adding the mini chat, and putting back MP is a good idea indeed.

Avatars will be limited to a width of 150px max

Matze, I'm totally agree about avatar's limit, but, to be honest I'm not sure about 150 limit.
as for me, I'm ok with a pretty big avatars - it give me opportunity see the person well, it's important for me in forum's conversation. Limit for avatars for me is a preventing option for all those really huge avatars that take more then half of the pages, there were such cases :)

Now, I analyze a width of our member's avatars:

Tilo - 200
Asphodel - 250
Shadows-In-Twilight - 180
MelissaFrance - 250
Lux Aeterna - 323
Kitty -314
Helen- 288
Felisa - 250
Lady Valentina - 345
Stephanie Lamas - 300

as you see, the average size here is ~ 250 px
now, I just want you all to see you how will be look some of our avatars in 150 px limits:

No, 150 limits is obliviously not enough.... we just lost possibility to see the person in conversation, visual connection will be broken

Matze, dear Matze, would you expand the limits, please? at least to 200 px... but 250 will be just perfect...

+1!

I can still recognize the people on the pictures, so where's the problem?
Well, it's an avatar, not a picture gallery ;)

I simply don't want that the avatars swallow more space than the postings itself...

Avatar-size I agree with Matze on this point, there's no use of having over-sized avatars (even when I theoretically have one myself at the moment) in the end we have the member-photos section to see each other more clearly if we want to... and I think people are still very well visible on the limited sizes indeed ...

- should there be a forum section an registered can only after he posted a certain amount of entries? So let's say: after 10 postings he gets access to a special subforum. If yes - after how many postings, how should we call that section and what should be in there?

It would be a good measure against spammers, seems to me...
Maybe the section where new users will have to post their first 10 messages will be a special subforum where people meet each other, introduce themselves?.. Like "Who am I" now...

Quote
- how shall we call the member level in the future and after how many postings they should be reached?

I am satisfied with what we have, except for one thing - after Forenlichtgestalt there is no place for carreer growth left  We could add several more ranks, as was already proposed by Lux.

Also I put my votes for:

pms back + expand
- of course!!
merging sections - seems handy, because some subforums are uses too rarely in comparison with others
merging the two forums - I am for, so that English and German parts are not divided. Because so far German half of the forum looks too silent :( Let us be all together! And dear German speakers still can write in German, naturally.
Create lacriwelt part - this would be useful, I think. Because I was asked by different new users to explain more about Ministers and LacriWelt not only one time. I gladly do that each time, but if we have all the topics like Constitution, Minister Meeting in one subforum it will be so much easier for newbees to learn all this stuff!
birthday on front page - yeah!
introduction part for new users - I'm for
limit access to amount of posts - I'm for
name lacriwelt of the forum - yes!!! :D

and about avatars... yeah, I'm used to not so small ones... It would kinda change the impression from the forum if we have really small avatars imho.
Limiting the size is necessary, obviously, because people sometimes use biiiiig ones... but... to what extent?.. Tech part is Matze's business of course, it's just my view of things

What if there will be no separate German-part in the new forum?

As a germanophile I dislike the idea of joining german part to the English one, cuz then there will be no place for conversations in German at all. TT
I don't like the idea of mixing languages in 1 topic, cuz there'll be parts of the topic that part of people in the forum cannot understand and constant language question for any thoughtful "bilingual" like me =)))
I'd rather let German part be. With some off-topic German area it may prove to be more alive than it is now.

I'd gladly join those wishing current birthdays on the front page.

Also multilingual or even just English chat may be useful.

No more votes / suggestions currently.

It's me again :) I just wanted to make it clear : I'm against uniting German and English parts, because it's quite a nonsense for me. Lacrimosa is a German speaking band, I like German langauge very much (that's why I learn it), so it definitely should be a part of the forum. If these two parts will be united, many problems will appear.

As for avatars and signatures.
Avatars - I prefer 200-250.I think it's enough and it's not too big size.But 100-150,guys!It's too little!
Signatures - it's too hard to write there, because usually when I try to write something,it writes something like "it's too much".

This is my avatar in 100 px!What is it?!?

And here is 150!

And here is 200!

Actually I prefer 300-350 px,but I already don't dream about them.

About German.

Yes,I want to apologize, because I was thinking about it during these days and I would like German to be here,in spite of I don't understand it sometimes.[/img]

Hi,

It's good to see improvement. So I wonder Is this an overall change or just rearrange sections?Anyway here’re my points about the forum layout problems in general, in 4 aspects:

1. Layout, background colour and style

This layout of forum seems to be a bit quieter the way it looks, than it really is, because on the index page it didn’t show how hot and how active it is—inside. If you don’t log in, even when you log in you need to see starred topics to know they are new.

Background colour and top banner: the bright top banner is a bit distracting against dark background colour-like a light in darkness, besides that when first screen is loaded most of the topics are pushed down by the large top banner, which is not very good user experience.

Solution suggestions:
The background colour, black and dark is gothic enough, but can also be a turn off and inactive colour, I suggest here we could customized background colour, that users are able to change into what pleases their eyes—by using customized templates

Add “what’s new” “lure” on top of forum: Now if one didn’t log in he has no idea of what is happening on page, I suggest if possible they can put images slide or post listings or both, on top of forum which can be automatically sorted from database and the most viewed or most hot topics can be chosen from manually--you moderators can do this job to maintain it, choose good topics and list on top of forum. To attract new people and who browse and does not register, let them know how interesting this forum actually is. And this part include some keywords can also contribute when it comes to SEO

Make the top banner smaller, less distracting and more self explaining

2. Sections/Languages/Function Problems:

Confusing sections:

Special—what is special? Price, deals? Special offers of products…on the sub text it says “stories, prelistening, competition..” this is quite confusing, cause I never seen a competition held in this section, (or maybe there were and I missed) and most stories I read are from off-topic, and pre-listening? They are shown at homepage and discussed at off-topic

Sideview—this part includes merchandise, and also in Search and Sell too, so this a bit confusing and disordered, And most rumors or discussions were active in off-topic or simply inside. I have suggestion to put an specific Merchandise section(talk about merchandise products in general), and delete this section.

Repeated sections:

Who am I vs Meet and Greet

one says “introduce yourself” and one says “leave some greetings” I think “Who am I” can be included in “Meet and Greet”, and put introduction as secondary text such as —“Meet and Greet—introduce yourself, meet and greet your new and old friends here!”

Fanpage vs Fanclub

They have something in common, because fansites are fanpages some others are fan clubs and there’re some inbetween, maybe can be put into one section called “Worldwide (Lacrimosa) Fan Communities(or Tribues)” or something like that

German Spoken vs English Spoken

First I think it’s better to combine English spoken and German spoken
Because most topics would drive more traffic to English spoken section, while German Spoken area takes little traffic but feels like not being part of a bigger group(which do not speak German)

I think logically it should be categorized by “Lacrimosa-related” or “Fan-related”

To-Be-Optimized sections:

Search & Sell

First this is not a very good title, cause when you trade it’s not just about search and sell, you may have questions about products or want to know where and how to get products.
This title is not specified enough for merchandise, and not big enough for “search”
SO I suggest add a section specially talking about Lacrimosa products, trade market etc. Call it “Lacrimosa-Market” or “Lacrimosa-Merchandise” or something like that…of course you can work out better names
Anyway it’s a place to let people know merchandise and products related in gernal: how to purchase, asking questions about products and maybe exchange what they have, of course let them know they’ll be dead if trading counter fakes

So there’re the sections category as summary

1. Annoucements

2. What’s News (just a part to exhibit new images or top topics)
     New images(slide)
Popular topics (searched selected by moderators)
     News(post by official or moderators)
     Popular products(exhibiting the latest products)

3. Lacrimosa theme topics part

3.1 Lacrimosa-inside (music, albums, studio works etc)
3.2 Lacrimosa-outside (tour, live report, parties, fanmeet, event, festival)
3.3 Lacrimosa-from fans (include fan art creations, fan stories, articles poems etc)
    3.4 Lacrimosa-Voting

4. Community part
4.1 Meet and Greet (introduce yourself, meet and greet your new and old  friends here!” )
    4.2 Worldwide Fan communities/sites
    4.3 Off-topic
4.4 Cosmopolitan citizens (or other names, we can consider give some tolerance here allow people from different countries to speak their mother languages?)
4.5 FAQ (for newbies or so…)

5. Market
   5.1 Lacrimosa Merchandise
5.2 Other Hall of Sermon Merchandise
   5.3 Flea Market (optional)

Languages:

First is default language of the forum when one first visit it. If one sees too much German he can be scared off to register—quite some Chinese fans didn’t know you can change languages cause it’s backend function after being a user.

And I also didn’t think it’s a good idea to separate English Spoken and German Spoken since the last time of Forum revision, that makes us feel like we are separated-sectionlly and languagelly

So why not emphasis on “International”, Lacrimosa’s largest group of fans may not come from any of the language-spoken area, so why not say
International community

Functions problem:
Search bar is not very user-friendly and can be optimized to a more “simple and direct” way
Log-in is a bit static, maybe consider a pop-up log-in?

3. Interaction and Community problems:

Improvement on interaction and user-centered parts(like nickname), turn it into a community
This forum right now looks like forum 1.5,
Since Lacri-Welt people here have built a virtual world out of forum, that’s something other forums would have dreamt for! A community means stickiness, not just a forum but
We can think of turning it into community, new comers and old forum members and are able to tell users—specially new users “welcome (back) to your spiritual home”
Nickname page is a good idea, but too static, not active and interactive enough

4.Features

We have a main feature here “Lacri-Welt”, we have our emperor Tilo, empress Anne, law, and ministers, this can be an attractive that other forums lack off, then we can highlight this on forum at some section.
To make it a real community

Lü Sha it is SO great to see you here again :) you made some really good points I think ^^ you clever brain hihihi :)
-  I surely agree on the problem with people not knowing what's going on inside when you're not logged in ... but on the other hand wouldn't that create a problem with privacy (as far as such a thing exists on the net)?  In the German part the idea rose that people might be not willing to log in when they know other people from outside the forum who're not registered yet can read them ... but maybe it would be possible to just show the topics but not to let them read, which would evoke curiosity I suppose?

- And as for the main language you might have a point there too, the fact many people come from non-German speaking countries may keep them from registering as soon as they see German.

- I also think that newbees should get a better/different welcome meaning a section for themselves; which would also work anti-spam(as far as that'll still be a problem in the new version of the forum) then as Matze proposed the only section(s) where people can write in until they reach a certain amount of posts. This could help us to get to know new people better and quicker... and maybe they'll feel more easily accepted, cause I notice that a lot of new people drop out rather fast maybe because from our side we don't pay enough attention to them, I donno? Maybe also a drive to stay longer; because they can get to more parts of the forum lateron.

- As for the search bar; yes, I personally don't have problems searching things there, but I know that there are who do have problems with it, though donno in how far it can be changed.

I agree with this; I think it's not good sharing with everyone all what we write here, especially in the off-topic section, since we almost all write things related to our own feelings and mood there.
And the idea of just showing the topics it's so cool!

Quote from: "Kitty"
-  - And as for the main language you might have a point there too, the fact many people come from non-German speaking countries may keep them from registering as soon as they see German.

The question of the language is difficult for me to say an opinion...
What Kitty has wirtten, happened to me when I registered here the first time   I saw so much German and I was like "oh my goth"!" and, this fact, with my shyness and my insecurity made than I didn't post anything until some months after... I think this can happen to people who aren't German-speaker.

On the other hand, I don't think German has to disappear; it's the official language of the band, and despite the fact I feel a bit annoyed when I see long texts and answers in a language I don't know at all, I don't think it has to disappear...
I considered the idea of just have English as official language, so that all members of Lacriwelt could be joined by just one language (Lacrimosa is an international band, and, for example, has much more Russian-speakers fans and Spanish-speakers fans that German, I guess), but after thinking a lot about this, I definitely think that German has been always here and we shouldn't forget that Lacrimosa is a German band with the most part of the lyrics in German... so, I don't think it's a matter to keep the two languges.
About mixing both sections...I disagree... I think it will be a mess if in the same topic I can see English and German mixed: I won't catch the most part of the conversation....
What's more, I think both sections should keep separetely, and just use English for the English section, (no another one) and German for German section.

Hi you girls! Yes I'm here again...pop up from time to time.. :D how are you doing?

I'm excited about the revision, I like changes..sometimes.. and I love brainstorming and ideas sharing...most of the time ;D

I have no problem about private messages systems..

Add to some more to revise my previous thoughts:

1. There's no "back to Lacrimosa homepage button" on forum, so what should one do, if he wants to go back and check Lacrimosa site?

2. Add language button to exchange between English/German? Let's not get stuck at this language thing, no one is exterminate another, we think about optimization.

3. Top Banner competition? maybe when making the top banner smaller, we can also turn it into a competition--Lacrimosa top banner competition: posting banners designed by forum members, drawings or photographics, and vote the winner, we can change by certain theme--new release, Christmas etc..or we can also do permanant one (but that we have to get approval) That gets things more active here...

4. Do we feature Lacri-Night as a specific section or just let it stay in Meet & Greet?

5. I don't find two log-in buttons make too much sense on forum...and shouldn't there be FAQ button before log-in? (if you are not logged in you can't see FAQ..but FAQ works for new comers mostly)

6. I really suggest we should add market section, introducing and talking about products, where we can also give suggestions on them, and also, more people will be attracted to online shop, instead of just seeing a still, quiet page there.

And also Think about sections and reordered ...

1 What’s New (just a part to exhibit new images or top topics)
New images(slide)
Popular topics (searched selected by moderators)
New Merchandise

2. Annoucements

3. Lacrimosa theme topics part
3.1 Lacrimosa-inside (music, albums, studio works etc)
3.2 Lacrimosa-outside (tour, live report, parties, fanmeet, event, festival)
3.3 Lacrimosa-from fans (include fan art creations, fan stories, articles poems etc)
3.4 Lacrimosa-Voting

4. Community part
4.1 Meet and Greet (introduce yourself, meet and greet your new and old friends here!” )
4.2 Worldwide Fan communities/sites
4.3 Off-topic

5. Market
5.1 Lacrimosa Merchandise
5.2 Other Hall of Sermon Merchandise
5.3 Flea Market (optional)

As I did a layout graphic look like this...it's too big so i only give the link
http://www.elftown.com/stuff/xyuLZZX.jpg

So that's how i think by now..

To attract new people and who browse and does not register, let them know how interesting this forum actually is. And this part include some keywords can also contribute when it comes to SEO

- adapt the search bar and make it more user-friendly?

-Lacrinight in a specific section or just in Meet&greet?

- add a language button to exchange between English and German?

- make FAQ visible for users which are not logged in?

- In the German part the question rose again; if the German parts keeps separated could there be a private off-topic part? (there were 11 votes for this idea)

- Another question that rose there: When the forums are mixed would it be allowed to mix languages in one topic?

As for Top Banner: do you mean a banner of the forum ?

I vote for FAQ button visible before log-in ;)

Market section is a good idea  :)

What's new is also a very nice idea !

Adapting the search-bar would be great ^^

Lacrinight needs a separate section, I think

A Language button would be cool  :D

As for German private off-topic part - I think we don't need it, both English and German off-topics can be put in one place.

As for inactive users - I agree with you, Kitty ! :D

As for Top Banner: do you mean a banner of the forum ?

Hi Olena, yes, I meant forum banner ...

you see when first screen is loaded, it takes space on half of the page at least, for old users they know where to go and can quickly browse down, and new users..well I think maybe could be improved.
And I checked this is a whole picture, without being sliced, so it slows down loading as well (specially on mobile), just how i think, maybe the depth of banner size needs to be cut down at half of original; I like the people on banner, but I dont like it's too bright here against dark background and distracting to my eyes
And maybe it's more fun and active if fans are allowed to do banner design competition, change them according to different themes....so that constently attracking revisitors...

Adding the language exchange button-which only changes the main structure of each section on forum(including breadcrumbs, titles etc), so both English and German speakers can read comfortably as they will, and for topics in different languages, I guess if man doesn't understand one topic just skip it? Or if you want to learn you can also read and try to join conversation..I don't see that a big problem...as long as we stick to the rule that, only one unified language allowed in one topic-otherwise it gets perplexed

Right now it's like keeping German speakers in one room, and English speakers in another room, and you shut them outside the door, I dont see the bad parts of bringing them into one big room.

*Waves and blow kisses to Elena, Melissa and Valentina!* great to see you here :D  :D

Yes, Lü Sha, that's an interesting idea about the banner that can be changed an accordance with different events on the forum. (For example Lacrinights.) Would be really cool.

Klodi
: I think it would be a bit annoying for the eyes if the pictures change by themselves... It is a top header and you see it too often, and moving pics are distructing.
Changing when you refresh or open a new page - yeah, for me it would be interesting.

a bit more brainstorm today
some more that I think:

1. Add facebook "like" button to topics

so you can share certain to your friends, with a topic title or so(only topics in public sections can be shared) I think it's possible, remember there's some code from facebook you need to adjust size.

2. Search button optimization suggestion:

First I think search page is very good, it's categorized in good logic.

Why I don't find it user-friendly, is because it does not support fuzzy search, you need first click on search button, go to search page then you have to narrow down every search conditions at your first search, then you get results
...if can I remember that clear probably I don't need search

what if you want to search something you don't remember where and when it was written?(which happens a lot) , with current search you get nothing.

so suggestions as(if condition permits) follows:

step1. Showing search bar icon, search bar input boxsimply like this on index page:

[       ] Search

step2. then you get fuzzy search listing of your keywords, only when you want to narrow down your result, then you click "advanced search" and go to search page.
And begin detailed and narrowed down search.

3. Written description tired one's eyes, and doesn't really seem helpful, cause they tell you what you can do, but didn't tell you how

All my suggestions are not enforced of course, just think as much as possible, about all possible ways that can be changed and improved. :)

1. Add facebook "like" button to topics

so you can share certain to your friends, with a topic title or so(only topics in public sections can be shared) I think it's possible, remember there's some code from facebook you need to adjust size.

i strongly disagree with this idea, sorry. why? first - if our friends on facebook are interested in what's going on here, they can easily join us. second - this would increase the number of members who only register and never write a word i think. or even worse, it might give us more people who have no respect towards Lacrimosa and Tilo [and Anne, ofcourse] and then what happened few weeks ago, will happen again. third - what if facebook shuts down before our forum?  and fourth - LacriWelt is LacriWelt. Facebook is Facebook. these two can't be compared, if i'm completely honest with my opinion ...

True Klodi, understand your concern, (and I think you look at negative side only)
my idea was introducing Lacrimosa to more people via SNS, when there's official FB account already, that looks like another version of myspace(without music), sometimes forum topics seem interesting to share

At brainstorm time I don't judge ideas, just bring them up, as many as possible. And those people technicals and moderators will judge and evaluate in the end I think, probably there's only a few they will and can change, so now there's no need to worry ;)

P.S. forgot to add one more problem from chinese fans
"German is hard to understand here" ........

-Lacrinight in a specific section or just in Meet&greet? Great idea, I vote for that to be a specific section

- add a language button to exchange between English and German? yes

- make FAQ visible for users which are not logged in? yes, why not :)

Thanks Kitty, I agree

as for german offtopic - i don't mind having it mixed with english one. when i don't understand, i just skip, but since i'll start learning german this year ...  fine by me   :)
I'm happy for you!! and I agree

Sha: I see, dear ! You're absolutely right about the forum banner ;) I'm for the competition ^^

Yes, Lü Sha, that's an interesting idea about the banner that can be changed an accordance with different events on the forum. (For example Lacrinights.) Would be really cool.
+1!!! *running to find pictures*

Woow, I know I haven't been in here for ages but I'm glad I popped by this topic before all the changes came about! I wouldn't even know how to log in or what language to write in ;) Only joking of course!

Lovely to see that something new is happening in here! Loads of good ideas so I don't really have a whole lot to add to it all! One thing though, that I think Lü Sha mentioned already, is the "top 10 topics/posts" and a quick reply option. Those two things would make it much easier to be able to follow and participate in here, even when you're busy!  (maybe even a mobile version? I'm sorry if that already exists...I haven't had a phone that could go on the net till recently :P)

I think it's good idea with limited avatars as well...I know mine doesn't repsond to the 100X100 at the moment, but I agree that we don't need biiig pictures to recognize each other...left alone that we already have a members photo topic, where as far as I remember there are several photos of each member already ;)

As for the language, I do think that there's a bit of a barrier between the "internationals" and the "Germans" at the moment, which is really sad! But combining the two sections I fear that the German topics would get lost among the busy international topics ;) The easiest thing is to keep the two sections as it is, but I also think it's a shame that we seem to be divided into either group  :|

Anyway! loads of good ideas already! Good work everyone and Admins; Thanks for letting us be part of the brainstorming :D

Update suggestions up to now + votes (also from the german part of the forum):

pms back + expand: 22
merging sections: 21
merging the two forums: 13
Create lacriwelt part: 16
birthday on front page: 22
chat on front page: 12
introduction part for new users: 14
limit avatars and signatures: 18
announcements only read: 15
merging fanclub/fanpages: 11
privatize some sections (avoid google from finding): 13
limit access to amount of posts: 12
name lacriwelt of the forum: 16
changing layout of the forum: 14
what’s new” “lure” on top of forum(top ten topics):5
FAQ button before log-in: 3
market section: 2
adapt the search bar: 2
Lacrinight in a specific section:3
language button : 3
how about MORE ICONS?: 3
Top Banner competition? : 3
Mobile-phone version: 2

other remarks/suggestions

-  Top Banner competition? maybe when making the top banner smaller, we can also turn it into a competition--Lacrimosa top banner competition: posting banners designed by forum members, drawings or photographics, and vote the winner, we can change by certain theme--new release, Christmas etc..or we can also do permanant one (but that we have to get approval) That gets things more active here...

-  I don't find two log-in buttons make too much sense on forum...and shouldn't there be FAQ button before log-in? (if you are not logged in you can't see FAQ..but FAQ works for new comers mostly)

- I really suggest we should add market section, introducing and talking about products, where we can also give suggestions on them, and also, more people will be attracted to online shop, instead of just seeing a still, quiet page there.

- Add “what’s new” “lure” on top of forum: Now if one didn’t log in he has no idea of what is happening on page, I suggest if possible they can put images slide or post listings or both, on top of forum which can be automatically sorted from database and the most viewed or most hot topics can be chosen from manually--you moderators can do this job to maintain it, choose good topics and list on top of forum. To attract new people and who browse and does not register, let them know how interesting this forum actually is. And this part include some keywords can also contribute when it comes to SEO

- adapt the search bar and make it more user-friendly?
suggestion:

-Lacrinight in a specific section or just in Meet&greet?

- add a language button to exchange between English and German?

- In the German part the question rose again; if the German parts keeps separated could there be a private off-topic part? (there were 11 votes for this idea)

- Another question that rose there: When the forums are mixed would it be allowed to mix languages in one topic?

- Add facebook "like" button to topics (two against)

-"Most users ever online was..." this will continue counting and appearing on the main page?

- quick reply option

- is it possible to embed youtube videos in our posts on the new place?

Among new suggestions I like most of all:

what’s new” “lure” on top of forum - sounds interesting
adapt the search bar and make it more user-friendly - yes, I find it not very convenient to use now
Lacrinight in a specific section - why not? these are very special and important events!
more icons - yeah! :D (icons = smileys, right?..)
Mobile-phone version - would be good, because I'll use it. But I am ok even with the present forum on my phone now.

Well Matze already told here, Pm's will be back as soon as the changes are made (spam-problem here is still present so I guess he won't take the risk of having spam in the inboxes again :)) ... I'll ask him about the changes, my guess is that he's working on it behind the screens but we all know he's a busy bee :) I'm sure at the right timings we'll know more about it :)

1. Annoucements
2. What’s News (just a part to exhibit new images or top topics)
     New images(slide)
Popular topics (searched selected by moderators)
     News(post by official or moderators)
     Popular products(exhibiting the latest products)

3. Lacrimosa theme topics part

3.1 Lacrimosa-inside (music, albums, studio works etc)
3.2 Lacrimosa-outside (tour, live report, parties, fanmeet, event, festival)
3.3 Lacrimosa-from fans (include fan art creations, fan stories, articles poems etc)
    3.4 Lacrimosa-Voting

4. Community part
4.1 Meet and Greet (introduce yourself, meet and greet your new and old  friends here!” )
    4.2 Worldwide Fan communities/sites
    4.3 Off-topic
4.4 Cosmopolitan citizens (or other names, we can consider give some tolerance here allow people from different countries to speak their mother languages?)
4.5 FAQ (for newbies or so…)

5. Market
   5.1 Lacrimosa Merchandise
5.2 Other Hall of Sermon Merchandise
   5.3 Flea Market (optional)

Hi @all,

sorry for the long silence about this, but I'm still working on the new Lacrimosa page which will be launched together with the new forum.

I think that Lü Sha's suggestions for the new forum structure is a pretty good basis.
Just a few comments from my side:

1. & 2. - Annoucements & News could be merged, as it is pretty much the same. Editor's pick of very interesting threads is a neat idea, but could be done by everyone, not only the mods.

Pictures/Albums: we have several photo-threads meanwhile, like Lacrimosa photos, member photos and so on. Sometimes it's quite hard to watch it, as pictures are often repeated in quotes. So I could install a gallery mod like this one here:
http://media.noisen.com/?sa=vua

It would be a real gallery then and we could open one for each thread. Of course you would have to fill it, but I'm not worried about it ;)

4.4 is a nice idea, but impossible to control - we wouldn't recognize turkish spam for example...

Besides that I think that the above structure is pretty good. Thanks to Lü Sha.

@Matze...Thank you for your compliment! ;) I agree with 4.4 that's why i remove it from my second draft. it's uneccessary. editor's pick, that's great if everyone can do it...(and can we have top banner competition too if possible?)And I think photo gallery is a great idea and improve on browsing experience.

looking forward to new looks of the page and forum

Cheers!
